Moneyball delivering private basketball lessons

Step-by-step checklist for starting, marketing and running successful basketball camps.

In my 13 years of running a successful basketball training academy, I often get asked “How did you do it?”

The simple answer is “I started by offering private basketball lessons.” Initially, I offered lessons at a reduced price. As demand grew, my prices increased.

From the private 1-on-1 lessons, I’ve added group lessons (up to 6 kids). Over time, I began running full-blown basketball camps. This is how my basketball training academy was established.

None of this would’ve happened had I not offered private lessons! Here are some of the benefits:

1. Establish your own basketball training academy
2. Earn supplemental income
3. Make an impact in the community|

Delivering private basketball lessons allows you to become “location” flexible. You may more “easily” use any of the following venues:

– Playground
– Portable goal (in driveway)
– School gym
– Recreation center
– Church

Marketing (or letting potential clients) know about your private basketball lessons is very straight forward. Simply distribute business cards to parents/kids in and around the community.

And finally, you can earn quick income by charging per lesson. I’ve charged anywhere from $0 – $200 per hour.

Depending on your market, experience, and comfortability, that’ll determine how much you charge. I’ve found that $50 is a great starting-point price.
